The Desi Simpsons
Meet The Singhsons, the Simpson’s Indian counterpart . I’m pretty sure you will like it. I mean, I certainly did. The transformation of the famous American household into a typical Punjabi family was stereotype but done pretty well (especially the Bart to Bartinder one was very hilarious!!!). Well, after all this video is sort of a parody to its original version and thats about it. Right, lets fancy this show becoming a reality and is telecast in Hindi (and hopefully the voices wont be those sick ones used in the dubbed versions of “The Power puff Girls ” and all those silly looking Japanese cartoons we get to see on Cartoon Network nowadays).
For those who don’t know, This is not but a mere cartoon, its a sarcastic portrayal of the North American home and deals with America’s favorite issues like School dropout rates, drug abuse, outsourcing, Teen pregnancies, Paris Hilton vs the Paparazzi and many more! The show actually requires a certain amount of Parental guidance. If such a thing hits the TV screen in our country, here are some things I’d love to see…
- Our present leaders especially my favorites Lalu Yadav, Amar Singh, Mumta Banerjee, Bal Thackeray, Karunakaran and M.Karunanidhi as cartoons . Perhaps portrayed a shade better than those in our newspapers. (I hope they don’t miss the trademark cluster of hair protruding out of Laluji’s ears)
- The big happy “Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham” type bollywood family (like in Ekta Kapoor soaps) with all those infinite Khans, Bacchans and Kapoors who put on their artificial smiles and start to get as bitchy as ever with their promos, blogs, guest appearances and what not!? The Simpsons had guest appearances as well. I remember episodes when great personalities like Abraham Lincoln & JFK appeared. Perhaps Mel Gibson could be replaced by Ram Gopal Varma, Paris Hilton by Shilpa Shetty and Arnold Schwarzenegger by guess who? Salman Khan!!! (The Desi way)
- Hindu Gods. Again I’d expect the animation to be much better than the “Ganesha” and “Hanuman” type movies. Since this has to do with religion I don’t think the producers will be sarcastic about it at the cost of their butts. And still, we’ll have the Saffron Brigade fuming.
Well, my imagination is limited and even with all these I’m sure there wont be scarcity of controversies, sms polls and half hour specials in news channels. After all, at least it’ll be a break from the conventional Saans-Bahu type serials.
PS: I certainly had a good time thinking about and if u come up with better thoughts, feel free to share it through the comments!
